Skylanders Superchargers Racing (Wii/3DS)The Story 3/10
While the console versions have the reputations of being the limelight of the main franchises story, the handheld versions of the games can either make you think about them as spin-offs or side stories. This one however is a very different than the other ones. It's not because the Wii actually have the same functionality to this and have Bowser on it. It's because of the game could not take all of the HD functions onto the Wii version therefore put the 3DS version in it. Also, this is one of the LAST games for the Wii to be released. Even with all of those facts
Will this game takes this new aspects to great heights like the crash racing games did
Or would they fall in the same fate as Mario Kart clones by not making it any good. Let's find out!
Well if you might of think Imaginators have the most meh plot, this one have no story to begin with. I get it because of this being somewhat of a spin-off or something that brings up the fact that this is not cannon to the franchise but the 3DS Versions of the previous games did indeed have stories into them and it did have a purpose of being in the franchise as Alternate Storylines. So in this, Pandergast host himself a racing competition for the Skylanders to race out for the Snow Globe that will give one wish. Why would it called the mysterious token of immense power on the back of the game or in the trailer? Because it wants you to buy the game to see what it is of course. Then it's just him hosting the entire competition while Flynn and Kaos making debut of themselves while making pointless non-cinematic cutscenes more unbearable that makes you say "THAT'S IT, I'M SKIPPING IT!" Oh, I'm sorry. Did I've spoiled the Kaos part, well I did. Kaos mades his debut in the 3DS series as the main antagonist. (As if this franchise big enough for). Also, THERES ONLY THREE NPC CHARACTERS IN THIS GAME AND THAT'S IT. Seriously, did any of the writers of this game actually tried to make a good story out of this. This is similar to Imaginators but unlike this game, Imaginators actually have a good reason to unbalance the story a little as we can get on to this gameplay soon. You might have think Imaginators have the weakest story in this franchise, you can hardly believe that a Wii port of a 3DS Title could actually made this one the weakest of the 5 tiny portals games. The Gameplay (NPC) 5/10
I will say this to the game. The gameplay to this is actually good. It's feels like your actually playing a racing game as Skylanders while having the same drive in Diddy Kong Racing (I haven't even played it yet though) But there are other things I would like to point it out that actually made the game too good to be truly a good Skylander game. There are many times that I've seen many levels that is good but haven't been polished much. The colors are chunky and not vibrant and the game are constant of glitches that will make you drive through walls making you first or last whenever you feel like going or not. The vehicles and the Skylanders are kinda alright as Superchargers have the role of giving their own Vehicles parts by going through the game and unlock elemental paths that can only be unlock by a vehicles of the same element or use magic items to unlock it. That's the reason why I'm defending the game a bit. Even though it's cheap, it actually have Magic Items takes the role in this game as they act out as items you've picked up in the race. The Sky Diamond turns energy bars into diamonds that will level your figures up faster, Winged Boots that will make you go fast, Hourglass of Time slows enemies down, A Music Player that acts like a Super Star, Sky Iron Shield that will defend you from projectiles attacks and the Tiki Mask acts like a Freakin Blue Shell to all the players. You can also use Traps in Trap Team to give yourself boosts for your vehicles which I defiantly like. Unlike Imaginators where it leaves it out to grab in-game money for your figures, it acts like a power key to your engine. The game might need to polish before release but man does that stop it from getting the benefits done right. The Presentation 5/10
Now this one is very hard to do because I've played both of these versions intentionally and the main differences is the 3DS have online multiplayer and the Wii version don't. The game is developed by Beenox, the same developers who did a Wii version of Swap Force, All the ports in Trap Team and Superchargers including the IOS. While it has licensed games to settle their names, They actually made commitment to Activision to help them out. This however, they tried. They tried to bring up to their fullest to get the same experience of the console version differently but they tried. They really did tried. Overall, this game was lashed out for not bringing in the benefits of the old figures thus, making them useless in the process except for playing as them. No Bonuses, No Unlockables, Just Nothing. the main gimmick however is the Vehicles themselves. While bringing themselves from becoming mediocre as a good racing game, it does not turns out the fact that it's not a Skylanders game that people expected. If you don't understand, let me explain. the kid's parents one time have this version of the game and the kid got very disappointed about the game itself that he thought he was playing a different game, causing their parents to have a bad review on it. No Interesting Story, No Adventure Mode on foot, Just Racing and that's really hurt. ouch. I know that the Wii is ageing overtime and I know that Beenox can do something better as well. this is the same company that made the games i've mentioned from the beginning and then they give us a Racing Only Game! This game may have a good reputations of being a good spin-off racing game but not as much as a supposed Skylanders gameFinal Review
Well, this is dissapointing. That and the fact that it is one of the last games that ever released for the Wii, I can see why this game gets so degraded. Skylanders Superchargers Racing happens to be the lowest game in the franchise so far and it really says it all with exception of the gameplay. But I won't be saying that this is a bad game but a good racing game. If you, your friend or you have a child that have actually love racing games like this and you wanted to get more out of it besides adventure mode and play together, be my guest. Just don't expect more out of it But if you really wanted to see an actual Skylanders game I would suggest get the Wii U version for playing Bowser and Donkey Kong in it or either XBox or Playstation since they're the same game except with the Nintendo Guest Stars. This game it one of those games that did not anger me but dissappoints me as that how I got the first Dark Edition from and expect something big out of it rather than just a cheap overpriced racing game but what I got is a very short, very rushed, very unpolished game. (Like Imaginators but without the last part) Of All the Skylanders Games that have released as the main and not a Spin-off this is the lowest of them all and one of the lowest 3DS versions of the remaining five and I can assure you that this score is not pretty for this review. Sorry Beenox but you tried.
